Millburn Short Hills

A definitive luxury destination, Millburn (pop. 20,000), and its elegant Short Hills section offer prime public and private school experiences and sophisticated downtown boutique shopping opportunities along with some of Essex County’s most remarkable private home inventory.

At nearly $1M, now, Millburn’s average residential home sale towers over those in neighboring towns, although its taxes, in many cases, are somewhat less. Millburn is proud home to the Paper Mill Playhouse/State Theater of NJ, The Mall at Short Hills, and a number of highly regarded restaurants.

The town is primarily noted for its school system, perennially ranked #1 in the state.  The beautiful hamlet of Short Hills was originally planned as an “ideal town…a harmonious community for people who appreciated nature…where natural beauty would not be destroyed by real estate developments, and where people of congenial tastes could dwell together.” The streets in Short Hills wind through a neighborhood of elegant, vintage estates, and newer mega-mansions built where other homes have been demolished – with a nearby Manhattan-bound train station on the Morristown Line right there.

Another Midtown Direct station stop is in bustling Downtown Millburn itself.  A section of the 2100-acre South Mountain Reservation nature reserve that is part of the Essex County Park System allows Millburn residents an easy getaway to nature.

Private schools in town are Far Brook and Pingry (lower school). Natives include actors John C. McGinley and Anne Hathaway, popular author Belva Plain, baseballer David Justice, and  CNBC’s “Squawk Box’s” Joe Kernen.
